"Photography for me is all
about patience and luck. Every once in a while a true image
happens in front of (or behind or above) me and sometimes I'm
fortunate enough to see it clearly, in time to catch it…"
A native of Los Angeles, Darin Fenn became interested in
photography and films at a young age. As a child, on hot days,
he would sneak into theaters and stay all day long.
At the age of 18, feeling the need to develop a sense of
cultural objectivity, Darin moved to Europe and immersed
himself in the art and history of the continent. After six
years living in Paris, Milan, Barcelona and Munich - as well
as traveling to Africa and the Far East - Darin returned to
L.A., determined to become a filmmaker.
From 1990 to 1998, Darin worked in every facet of the film
industry, including directing and editing music videos and
commercials. During these years, he began to develop a career
as a commercial photographer - ultimately going on to shoot
various fashion and advertising campaigns, as well as
promotion for numerous musicians and bands.
After years of working as a commercial photographer, Darin
realized his true passion was for the photos that cannot be
set up - the ones that exist all around us. In his own words,
"to capture moments of ligtht and humanity as they happen in
time, being the silent observer… this is what I love most
about photography."
In July of this year, Darin was asked by the non-profit
organization The Art of Elysium to do an exhibition of his
fine art photography. The wealth of images, usually reserved
for a small group of collectors and fans, was put on display
for the first time. The show, at the Don O'Melveney Gallery in
Beverly Hills, was an enormous success, selling over 50 prints
in two weeks - unheard of for a photographer's first
exhibition.
Due to the success of Darin's first show, gallery owner
Michael Dawson asked him to create a new series of photographs
for their winter exhibition.
The show opens its two-month run at the Michael Dawson Gallery
on December 6th.
Some of Darin's collectors include: David and Courtney
Arquette, Balthazar Getty, Patricia Arquette, Jeremy Sisto and
David Schwimmer.
