About Dance/Sunset Ritual:
Dance Ritual was founded in 1998 by two of dance music’s most respected artists, Louie Vega and Joe Claussell. Dance Ritual was created as a cultural dance music event that saw no boundaries, where African, Jazz, Latin, Soul, Gospel, R&B, and Brazilian sounds would blend through House forms. Whether playing new or classic dance music, Vega and Claussell would always conjure a warm soulful atmosphere for any open-minded spirit.

Dance Ritual has been the home of amazing performances by artists such as the late great Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Roy Ayers, Jocelyn Brown, India, and guest DJs Timmy Regisford, David Morales, Tony Humphries and Francois K to name a few. Dance Ritual was first presented at the club Vinyl and then transcended outside of the club culture to the Annual Summer Boat Ride on the Hudson, Mainstage at Central Park, and even went overseas to the UK, Japan, Italy, Greece, and Spain.

Keeping the Dance Ritual culture alive and venturing into new lands, Sunset Ritual was created by Louie and Anane Vega and debuted at the ultra-exclusive Blue Marlin Ibiza in summer of 2010. Sunset Ritual maintains the traditions of Dance Ritual using the same emblem that is an artifact of the Taino Tribe, representing beautiful, peaceful, indigenous people of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Guests are treated to an unforgettable party in the luxurious setting of the Blue Marlin that gently beguiles the crowd at sunset into an all-night celebration. Sunset Ritual continues this summer on Saturdays on Ibiza island between July 23 and September 3, 2011.

- Ten Years Deep -
LA’s Longest-Running Weekly House Music Event
“Deep” Celebrates a Decade of Dance on
Sunday, February 15, 2009

LOS ANGELES, CA – LA’s legendary house music club, Deep celebrates its 10-year anniversary on Sunday, February 15, 2009 with special guests Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, Marques Wyatt, Rich Medina, Garth Trinidad and DJ Spinna. Founded by veteran DJ Marques Wyatt, the Sunday night weekly has been held at the Vangaurd in Hollywood for the past 4 years. Located at 6021 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028, hours for this special night are from 6:00pm – 4:00am. Tickets cost $30 and guests 21-years and older are welcome. For more information please visit www.deep-la.com.

In the last ten years, Deep has witnessed serendipitous moments, including the one that lit the spark of this now-ten-year glow within LA house culture. One nondescript night in Hollywood, Deep founder, Marques Wyatt (an accomplished house music DJ and producer in his own right) was hanging around the Viper Room in Hollywood, watching a friend’s band play. At the time, very few people knew he was looking for a new path after the end of his longstanding involvement with the afterhours event, Does Your Mama Know, but for a reason known only to the universe itself, Viper Room owner, Sal Jenco, approached Marques and asked him if he’d be interested in doing a night at the legendary rock venue. The year was 1998, and Deep was born. At the time, the Viper Room’s walls had never heard house music, but the crowd built quickly, drawn to the energy of performances from house music legends like Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Marques Wyatt’s musical mentor, Little Louie Vega and a collective understanding of Marques Wyatt’s unflinching dedication to quality music and an open, multi-cultural atmosphere emerged.

It was during this stage of Deep’s mystical lifetime that Deep fan and friend, filmmaker Scott Peake, courted his wife Gina. As if it were meant to be, Deep became a weekly ritual in their relationship, as Scott describes, “The minute I saw her, I knew she was the one. [When we go to Deep], we get out on the dance floor and dance together, and it’s like no one’s around but just us.” Now approaching nine years together, seven years of marriage and two beautiful children, Deep has a special resonance with this couple’s story of true love. “Deep gave us our groove in our relationship,” Gina explains. “It was very special.” The couple even came to Deep during Gina’s two pregnancies in order to give their sons the gift of rhythm within the womb. Now 1 ½ and 3 years old, both boys dance with the passion and soul of house music guiding their little feet.

When Deep’s crowd burst from the seams of the Viper Room’s now-house-soaked walls, it was strange coincidence that brought Marques Wyatt and his beautiful mission to 1650. As he tells it, “After a year in existence, the small shell of the Viper Room with a capacity of 250 could no longer hold the burgeoning life emerging. I received word on what was described as an ideal location and walked in the doors of 1650. The second I walked in, I saw my old friend Marc Smith [now of Edison fame] sitting on the stage. He grinned and said, ‘Marques, what took you so long? This is my venue. What night would you like?’ I said, ‘Tomorrow!’ And, that’s where Deep lived every Sunday for the next five years.”

Because of its home on Sunday nights and its soulful, welcoming, cleansing essence, Deep has become a ritual for its most dedicated followers, many of whom refer to the weekly musical sanctuary as “church.” And it certainly has that spiritual quality. It is not a place to see and be seen, but to love and be loved. It is not a place for judgment, but acceptance. A place for freedom. For life. And, for the last four years, this life has manifested at Hollywood’s Vanguard with a heartbeat pumping the most essential ingredient of all: the music! Deep’s guest DJ roster reads like a who’s who of house with Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, Dimitri from Paris, Miguel Migs, Mark Farina, Timmy Regisford, Ben Watt, King Britt, Kaskade and so many others having graced the decks over the years. Those beautiful right-place-right-time moments weave through musical memories of Deep too, adding to the rich tapestry of serendipity that has emerged within the story of this historic movement. Just last year, one of the greatest moments in Deep musical history occurred when Prince emerged from the shadows of the Vanguard and floated to the stage in his ethereal way to tinker with Kerri Chandler’s keyboard. Quite simply, Deep is magical. It reminds us that divine communion is possible through the purity of dance.
