The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS) is pleased to announce Blast! [10], the annual SASSAS garden party and fundraiser, on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.  With food, beverages, and a silent art auction, Blast! [10] will take place at the private home of the Hillenburg family in San Marino, CA. To celebrate its 10-year milestone, Blast! Beyond C:F’s signature blend of vibrant artwork and music produced by local talent this show captures the mixed-medium spirit that patrons have come to expect from these one-night-only exhibits. Vox Femina Los Angeles continues its 16th season with Half the Sky: Voices of Women Worldwide, a choral concert celebrating the courage and compassion of women around the globe, on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Hollywood.  The event features Vox Femina’s first installment of an exciting musical cycle, which explores culture and stories of women around the globe.  Children from Creative Planet School of the Arts will dance on stage with Vox for “Beneath the African Sky,” a choral piece written by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory that was inspired by genocide survivor Clemantine Wamariya‘s childhood spent in African refugee camps.  A new composition by Haitian-American Sydney Guillaume will also be featured. Bootleg Theater announces the world premiere of Death of a Salesgirl, an absurdist tragicomedy with integrated media, about one woman’s struggle to free herself from her past, opening in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 13, 2012 and running through Saturday, November 17, 2012.  Written by Patricia Scanlon, Death of a Salesgirl is a dark and humorous parable of a salesgirl breaking in new territory.  This intensely creative interdisciplinary performance piece, directed by Matthew McCray, incorporates video projections, animation and a uniquely crafted set by the award-winning Francois-Pierre Couture.  Death of a Salesgirl stars Patricia Scanlon and Paul Dillon.

Vox Femina Los Angeles, the eclectic women’s choral ensemble, opens its 16th season with No Ordinary Women, a concert featuring the music of Joan Szymko and Gwyneth Walker on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Zipper Concert Hall in the Colburn School of Music.  Vox Femina is thrilled to open its new season with works from these two extraordinary women composers, who have had a significant influence on the group.  The award-winning Mira Costa High School Advanced Women’s Chorale, an ensemble known for its mature tone, artistry and repertoire directed by Michael Hayden, will also be featured in a brief set.

A fresh idea in collaborative fundraising will take place on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at a private home in Los Feliz from early afternoon until late night.  Synergy = Music + Sustainability is an innovative, multicultural, experiential event to help raise funds for two dynamic, solution-based nonprofits based in LA: Arts:Earth Partnership (AEP) and NextAid.  Music and arts producer, Jonathan Rudnick (theLIFT/Noise Pop Culture Club/Giant Step co-founder) is at the helm bringing the best talent Los Angeles has to offer to this consciousness-raising event. SASSAS’ concert series, sound., returns for a 14th season, kicking off with the Los Angeles premiere performance of Oakland-based experimental duo myrmyr at the Kings Road Park Pavilion on Saturday, June 30, 2012.  Produced by the Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS), the sound. concert series pushes new music boundaries by creating unique listening experiences for audiences that combine experimental music and unconventional settings.  Known for entrancing ambiences and intricate layered melodies, myrmyr creates an intimate post-classical atmosphere inspired by folk elements of the duo’s common Eastern European ancestry.  The June 30th myrmyr sound. event starts at 5:00pm.  Advance tickets are $12, $10 for SASSAS members/students/seniors, and can be purchased at www.sassas.org/sound/2012.  Tickets are $15 at the door.  Kings Road Park Pavilion is located at 1000 North Kings Road, West Hollywood, CA 90069.

Vox Femina Los Angeles continues its 15th anniversary season with From Shakespeare to Shamrocks, a spring concert celebration that brings the English and Irish together in song on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2012 at the Zipper Concert Hall in the Colburn School of Music.  In this bi-cultural evening, Vox Femina will unite classic Shakespeare sonnets with authentic Irish music sung in Gaelic.  From classical works to folk songs, traditions new and old from England, Scotland and Ireland will be celebrated at the event.  The performance starts at 8:00pm.
