PRODUCT DELUXE
was born in April 1999, following a trip to Belfast by
Justin Deighton. His DJing skills had been requested at
Digital Boogie, the club run by Timmy Stewart, Glenn McCartney
and Mark Bell. At the end of the night, Justin found himself
in the studio with Timmy and Glenn, with the intention of just
seeing what would happen! Four days and a few fat ones later,
their first EP was complete. The title “24 Eastside” was
taken from the address of the studio and Eastside Movement
became the moniker for the mad trio.
In the words of Muzik’s Dave
Mothersole at the time, “….they’re off to a very good start
– a label to watch..”.From then on Product Deluxe has
developed into one of the UK’s leading house labels with the
developing production skills of the handful of people involved
(which include Justin, Peace Division’s Justin Drake,
Gary Marsden of Hot Lizard fame and Timmy Stewart
and Glenn McCartney aka New Alumnists), becoming second
to none.
Product Deluxe has forged strong ties with DJ’s
and labels worldwide, which has lead to remix trades with
Hipp-E, Master D, Chris Duckenfield, Derrick Carter and
wild praise from DJs like Laurent Garnier (“I’ve been
following this label from the start. The music gets better and
better every time. Great stuff.”), Groove Armada’s Andy
Cato ("A wonderful record. (Our) tune of the week on
Kiss”), and Danny Rampling (Radio One) (“3 tracks
played off the same label, in one show”). Obviously, Product
Deluxe is carving themselves out to be a label of style and
quality.
Justin
Deighton Biography
DJ'ing for over 10
years now, Justin Deighton first started his career playing
alongside legendary Balearic/Acid House DJ Johnny Walker. This
lead to a monthly slot at London's now infamous Sunday night
session of Full Circle. DJ'ing lead to his producing career
and after his first release on Cowboy Records in 1992
(Talisman - "Only You") he soon became part of the Flying
Records crew which saw him travelling up and down the country
playing at a host of nights run by notorious UK club promoter
Charlie Chester.
In 1993, Justin became Promotions Manager for SubLevel,
promoting labels such as FNAC and was involved in the launch
of labels including F Communications and various US labels
like New York techno don Damon Wild's Synewave and
Experimental. While still recording and DJ'ing in 1994, Justin
hooked up with Stuart McLellen and launched Pacific Records
which saw the pair DJ'ing the world over and promoting the
label. After 5 years, 18 releases (including the classic "The
Theme" by Hot Lizard) and a compilation album Justin and
Stuart opted to part company and pursue their own solo
interests. Stuart stayed in Paris while Justin returned to
London and launched his own label PRODUCT DELUXE.
Product Deluxe has now been running 2 years and Justin
continues to DJ at various clubs throughout the world,
including South Africa, Germany, Russia, Czech Republic, and
France in 2001 and has been monthly resident at Vapour @
Fabric, London) and Digital Boogie in Belfast.
