Highways Performance Space and Moon Mile Run present the world premiere of Bang Bang, the newest addition to Michael Kearns’ compelling arsenal of theatrical work. Opening on Friday, April 10, 2015, Bang Bang is a character-driven play that examines societal “headline” contentions with intensity and passion. Inspired by the myriad responses to gun violence in America – from Sandy Hook to Ferguson – Bang Bang, directed by Mark Bringelson, weaves a battered, shredded tapestry from individual lives torn apart when a trigger is pulled.The six performances are on Friday and Saturday nights from Friday, April 10 to Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 8:30pm at Highways Performance Space. Rising Phoenix Repertory, Weathervane Productions, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater present the world premiere of Thieves, written by Charlotte Miller and directed by Daniel Talbott, at the Monroe Forum Theatre at the El Portal in North Hollywood. Thieves tells the story of a dysfunctional family in East Texas that descends into chaos when their matriarch dies. Performances begin Wednesday, March 18, 2015. The press opening is Friday, March 20, 2015 with the production running through Saturday, April 4, 2015.

DakhaBrakha is an award-winning Eastern European ethno-chaos quartet, driven by drums, cello, and vocals from members Marko Halanevych, Olena Tsybulska, Iryna Kovalenko, and Nina Garenetska. The world music event, which starts at 7:30pm, is part of DakhaBrakha’s current U.S. and European tour. Pasadena Arts Council (PAC) is proud to announce AxS Festival 2014 | Curiosity, in diverse venues throughout the greater Pasadena area from Friday, September 19, 2014, through Sunday, October 5, 2014. AxS [ak-sis], produced by Pasadena Arts Council in partnership with numerous Pasadena arts and science institutions, is a two-week+ citywide festival spanning three weekends that explores the nexus of artistic and scientific inquiry, promoting experimentation and cross-fertilization between these disciplines. Programming is saturated with innovative visual art, theatre, dance, music, photography, history, science, literature, film, and architecture. The 2014 theme, Curiosity, was inspired by the NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)-built Mars Rover, “Curiosity,” which is currently exploring the Martian surface some 50 million miles above us. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) presents the 2014/2015 Season Opening Night with The Lost Fingers on Friday, September 19, 2014. The evening, made complete with an opening reception, kicks off the 14th season of TRK’s public performing arts series at the innovative performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles. The Quebec-based and award-winning headliner, The Lost Fingers, is known for transforming pop/rock classics into Django Reinhardt-style gypsy jazz, with a hint of blue grass, taking listeners on a musical journey through reinterpretations from AC/DC to Earth, Wind and Fire; from Deee-Lite to Dolly Parton and Daft Punk. This will be The Lost Fingers’ Los Angeles debut as a quartet, featuring vocalist Valérie Amyot (a finalist on La Voix, Quebec’s version of the popular American TV show, The Voice). The band previously performed at TRK in 2010 as a trio, before Amyot joined the group. Overtone Industries, a celebrated force in the evolution of contemporary music theatre and experimental opera, will share the stage at REDCAT, CalArt’s downtown center for contemporary arts, with two other Los Angeles-based arts organizations during the kick-off weekend of the New Original Works Festival 2014 (NOW Festival), Thursday, July 24, through Saturday, July 26, 2014. Overtone Industries will present the first glimpse of ICELAND, a new multidisciplinary work, written, composed, and directed by O-Lan Jones in collaboration with critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Emmett Tinley. The production will feature a fourteen-member cast, with two soloists, a twelve-member choir, and a chamber orchestra. ICELAND is a modern love story, set in a mythical and timeless world, where elemental forces and ancient creatures challenge the hero and heroine on an archetypal journey.
