Release date: April, 2001

After being name checked all over the US by none other than the Karma Chameleon himself, Boy George, Whole Nine Yards continue their foray into America with the eagerly anticipated collaboration between men-of-the-moment RENNIE PILGREM and MEAT KATIE.

Guv’ner of the mighty TCR, label, Rennie is currently in the throes of celebrating the label’s 50th release with a 4-track EP that’s being hammered by anyone with taste and appearing in charts everywhere. Similarly, Meat Katie is riding high with his new 12” on Kingsize, “Rotten Dot Com”, which is Single Of The Month in Wax, DJ and Muzik to name a few.

The beatmeisters locked horns recently, and after a few sessions at King St. Studio emerged with a heavyweight slab of tech-funk christened “Rubba”. The newborn was swiftly given a royal spanking on CDR by Koma & Bones, and Rennie Pilgrem himself, leading to Dylan Rhymes licensing the track for a forthcoming compilation.

On the flip, W9Y caters to the 4/4 heads with “Rubba Dub”, which adopts a more tribal approach. “Rubba Dub” is already gaining strong support from Peace Division’s Justin Drake and Different Gear’s limelight-basking Quinn ‘Kerb Crawler’ Whalley, who took time out to call Mark from the US after dropping the track at NY’s CentroFly to say (and we quote), “Pember – that ‘Rubba Dub’ track tore the f**king roof off the place!”. Not very poetic, but the message was received, loud and clear.

Meat Katie’s last W9Y release, the “Distorted Soul Part 1” collaboration with BLIM, continues to make waves around the world, and we have just licensed it in the US and Australia.  Rennie Pilgrem’s reputation precedes him, and we think the union of such pedigree has lived up to expectations.
