LOS ANGELES, CA – February 4, 2014 – Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, will hold a free screening on Monday, February 10, 2014 of two French short films, both nominated for this year’s Academy Awards. A question and answer session will follow the films with Alexandre Espigares, one of the directors of Mr. Hublot. Oscar winners will be announced at the 86th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2, 2014. TRK’s screening of the two films starts at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. Mr. Hublot –
Directors: Laurent Witz & Alexandre Espigares
    Oscar Category: Short Film (Animated)
    In English
    11 Minutes
    2013
In this artful animated short, the eccentric, isolated Mr. Hublot is obsessed with time management and routines. An accountant, he is agoraphobic and lives in a small, tidy suburban flat. His carefully ordered world is disrupted when he takes on an abandoned robot puppy. The film depicts an absurd post-industrial world, where nature has disappeared along with most “human” feelings. The poetic Mr. Hublot was inspired by the sculptures of Belgian artist Stéphane Halleux. This is the first time Laurent Witz and Alexandre Espigares have been nominated for an Academy Award. This short live action film follows Miriam, who is desperate to get herself and her two kids out of town. In order to escape the clutches of her abusive husband, she takes refuge with her children in the supermarket where she works. The audience follows as Miriam’s panic mounts in this realistic depiction of an all-too common crime. This is the first time Xavier Legrand and Alexandre Gavras have been nominated for an Academy Award. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1jmM8eYLoI
